Issue/Alert Affecting Crop:  The Washington County cotton harvest is winding down. Cool season forages and small grains are actively being planted on last week’s rain. Hay is being fed at a rapid pace. Grass hay production was significantly off in quantity of bales or rolls produced this year. However the average quality was very good this year. Cool season vegetables are doing well.

Peanut harvest is complete. Southern Washington County wasn't hurt as badly as the northern part of the county from lack of rain in the summer of 2010. Some growers in the Vernon area made very respectable crops this year which really helped the county average. However the northern part of Washington County, Holmes and Jackson Counties suffer major losses or reductions in yields. Some of better peanut growers experienced a reduction in yields of a ton or more of peanuts/acre (approximately a $400+ loss/acre).
