The SPDN data network is designed to share information on pest diagnostics among:

  1. Individual states in the southern region that each have their own local diagnostics database.

  2. A centralized SPDN regional center that pools information from southern states into a single southern regional database at the University of Florida.

  3. A national NPDPDN central database at Purdue University that pools information from five regional centers.

The data network thus provides a way for states to send their data to the regional center, and a way for the regional center to forward this data to the national center.

Descriptions of various software components needed to implement this network are described.
